Carnegie Museum Glass

The gallery shows glass made by Westmoreland which was exhibited at the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from 1921 to 1937. These are special one-of-a-kind glassware that typically highlighted the craftsmanship and artistry of the decorators at Westmoreland. Master Engraver Joseph Racinger and Master Hand Decorator Joseph Bischof were called upon to show their superior skills and it shows in the glass found to date. The glass will typically be hand marked in grease paint on the bottom with accession numbers 7058 or 7191. Other numbers could be found. The numbers, unfortunately, may have been removed by subsequent owners so matching up the piece with the one-known list can be difficult. Luckily, glass engraved by Racinger is signed with his name “J Racinger” dated and signed “Westmoreland Glass Co” making it easier to identify as part of the Carnegie collection.
